Private conversations are a fun, easy way to share secrets, build CR, and get up to no good away from the public eye. As conversations posted in the weekly mingles, investigations and trials can be considered public knowledge, having a private conversation between characters may be ideal if the topic is something unsavory... Or, you just wanna sin away from the public eye. It happens. If you wish to have a private conversation with one or more player characters, simply create a filter including the characters involved and the mod journal (abhoth), and then create a post using that filter in your character's journal. Once that's done, link your private conversation in this post within 24 hours or less! We need to be aware of what's happening to provide a better murder game experience, after all. Since we are aware a good number of us are murdergame newbies, there is a very good guide to setting up filters and private conversations over here.
