( prophet ooc post )

Hello, lovelies! Welcome to our quick and dirty OOC info post for those who are part of our Prophets/mafia faction. The reason for this post is that there are a couple of details your character Should Know by default thanks to being in the mafia faction, but wouldn't... really make sense ICly to have written on the rulebook. So. OOC info post. We'll try to be as brief as possible, and any questions you may have you can ask through PM or PP's to the mod accounts ([community profile] yuggoth/[plurk.com profile] yuggoth).

WHO IS THE OLD ONE?
  1. That would be the Unclean.

  2. As in, the NPC represented in this icon.

  3. ... And your boss,

  4. or handler,

  5. or the actual hecking sun in Yuggoth. No wonder that shit never goes down.

MOM, I SOLD MY SOUL FOR FIVE BUCKS:
  1. As the section title helpfully points out: Your character sold their soul to Cthulhu. Or Cthulhu's eldritch distant cousin twice removed, in any case. We wish we were kidding but we are not.

  2. All faction members have been given a specific motive for selling their soul to the Unclean. This would have been discussed through PM with you, so don't worry. The important bit is that you've all been promised something in exchange for your participation.

  3. And for those who aren't too keen on permanent servitude, don't worry. Think of it as a loan. Complete the task you've been given, and get both your soul and your reward back. Of course — more permanent arrangements can be made for those who want to cash in on infinite eldritch power whenever they want.

  4. The soul selling part would have happened relatively recently, as to not affect your character's canon. You can assume the Unclean spoke to your character through a dream, or perhaps physically manifested in front of them to offer them a deal in exchange for their participation.

WHAT AM I PARTICIPATING IN, AGAIN?
  1. Why, a ritual! A yearly ritual for the Unclean and all her eldritch buddies, in fact.

  2. Your character basically agreed to kill thirty-nine (39) people in exchange for getting everything their heart desired. Who needs morals when you can have infinite power, right?

  3. Eldritch gods happen to be very transparent about their intentions, so no one has been outright lied to. As long as your character holds up their end of the bargain, they'll get whatever reward they were promised and maybe even some bonuses, if they went out of their way to make this year's ritual super exciting.

  4. That said... If they begin to doubt their motives, they will be reminded that their deal will be undone and that their souls could end up trapped in Yuggoth for the rest of eternity.

AS IT TURNS OUT, WORKING FOR CTHULHU GETS YOU BETTER HEALTHCARE.
  1. There are some bonuses characters will be granted during their stay at Yuggoth.

  2. First and foremost is the fact that, even if they're killed during the game, all faction members will be revived at endgame as long as they actively held up their end of the bargain.

  3. Second, all Prophets will have the ability to instantly access any room inside the motel that carries a mirror or a mirrored surface, since they've been granted the power to travel through mirrors. The location descriptions will usually note if a room comes with anything of the sort, and all bedrooms carry two (2) mirrors by default. This is to facilitate kills, mostly, as well as to grant access to the room used for faction meetings.

  4. Prophets are immune to night terrors, as they have since opened their mind to the Unclean. During periods of time where night terrors are active, it is up to Prophets to maintain the veil of secrecy by blending in with those effected.

GENERAL MURDER NOTES:
  1. A Prophet's main role is to kill at least one other person each week. This kill will need to ICly happen between Thursday and Friday, and will count towards that week's trial. That said, the Prophets will vote for their selected victim on ICly and OOCly Sunday nights.

  2. Sometimes, the Prophets will be asked to kill a person who has begun to bore the Unclean and is negatively impacting her ability to enjoy the ritual. This kill will usually happen after their faction meeting between Sunday night and Monday morning, and will not count towards that week's trial.

  3. They know the basic format of the ritual itself. This means they know there will be brief investigations, trials and executions, but not much else since the finer details are up to the location's "facilitator" (aka, The Innkeeper).

  4. And speaking of facilitators, congratulations! Prophets are facilitators for the Unclean, though being referred to as a "Prophet" sounds a hundred times more fancy.

  5. Finally, they'll have been informed that they'll have two (2) fellow Prophets to work with, but now who these individuals are.
