I recall that the people went about with pale and worried faces, and whispered warnings and prophecies which no one dared consciously repeat or acknowledge to himself that he had heard. A sense of monstrous guilt was upon the land, and out of the abysses between the stars swept chill currents that made men shiver in dark and lonely places.
–H.P. Lovecraft, Nyarlathotep

For this week, there will be no sudden loss of control for those who have signed their souls away for the greater good. As long as they're in the Curio Shop by 6:05 PM on Monday, nothing out of the ordinary will happen. All they must do is knock on the shop's door, carefully as if to not draw attention towards themselves, and the door will creak open by itself much like the previous week.

As per usual, inside this strange room they'll find Craftly seated at a round table. Shelves of antiques line the walls and the smell of peppermint tea wafts through the air. A thin tendril slips across the table from Craftly's sleeve, hooking around his cup of tea. As smug as ever, he smiles to the group.

"Come in, Hunters. It's time for us to begin".

On Sunday night, as soon as the grandfather clocks mark 6:00, a voice will speak to you. The tone may vary from person to person, the voice's pitch shifting and changing to suit her facilitators's needs — but the words will remain the same. Similarly for all those who can hear it, they'll suddenly find themselves captivated by it.

"Come now, little ones. It's time to partake."

And just like that, you find yourself drawn towards the nearest mirrored surface on the wall, somehow managing to avoid calling the attention of anyone who might be in the room with you. Though this is your first time participating in the ritual, knowledge still floods your mind. A light press of your hand against the mirror, and you will find yourself capable of stepping through the previously solid surface and into the shrine room. Here, you find yourself accompanied by two (2) other individuals. And though your handler can't be physically among you, you still feel her presence enveloping you and saturating the air in this room.

Glance up, and through the glass ceiling you'll be able to see her in all her glory.

It seems it's time for this week's sacrifice to be chosen.

[Like before, Emily's hands and forehead are slathered in cool blood in preparation for the ritual. She's made to sit in the middle of the circle, a coppery stench filling her nostrils as her back faces the only exit in the room. Next to her is the usual white basin, dried blood staining its edges as a severed hand stares back at her.

Craftly will stick around in case his assistance is needed, but won't participate in the conversation. Though neither Dave nor Emily will be able to see each other, they will still be able to hear their voices as clearly as if they were speaking in person. Now, it's up to the Medium to initiate the conversation.]

[As with the last time, preparations are made and blood is slathered into Emily's hands and forehead. When she is instructed to sit down in front of the white basin, she will find a pair of eyes staring back at her. The optic membrane is still attached, rapidly drying blood staining the porcelain.

Strangely enough, they're the same color Omega's eyes used to be.

Craftly will stick around in case his assistance is needed, but won't participate in the conversation. At exactly 6:00 PM on Monday night, something very strange will happen to you. Regardless of whatever you were doing or whatever you were planning to do, you will find yourself stopping midway. Numbness spreads from your toes to the top of your head. You feel no control of your body. Thousands of shivers roam up your nerves, controlling your limbs like strings to a limp puppet. You're aware of your body moving - out of the room and into the first floor hallway. It's not until you stop in front of the unmarked room nestled between the Kitchen and Laundry that you regain control of your body.

A soft click, and the door creaks open. Inside the room you'll find a small group of people and Craftly seated at a round table. Shelves of antiques line the walls and the smell of peppermint tea wafts through the air.

A thin tendril slips across the table from Craftly's sleeve, hooking around his cup of tea. As smug as ever, he smiles to you.

Welcome, Hunters! As you should have been told by now, you represent the "detective" faction of this game. It's your job to ICly suspect those around you and discover who belongs to the "mafia" faction before it's far too late. For this first mingle (and all others, really), we encourage your characters to get to know each other, shitpost to your heart's content, and share your personal roles. Remember to check the Hunter's Handbook for IC rules and information.

We hope you have fun with your role! :)

Welcome, Prophets! Starting as of today, you can expect a weekly faction mingle where you will be free to shitpost, theorize, and eventually, cast your vote for whoever you will be killing this week. To summarize the key aspects from your OOC info post:
  1. A Prophet's main role is to kill at least one other person each week. This kill will need to happen between Thursday and Friday, and will count towards that week's trial.

  2. Sometimes, the Prophets will be asked to kill a person who has begun to bore the Unclean and is negatively impacting her ability to enjoy the ritual. This kill will usually happen after their faction meeting on Monday, and will not count towards that week's trial.

  3. Prophet players don't need to fill out a murder proposal for faction kills.

  4. The Prophets have access to every room inside the motel that carries a mirror or a mirrored surface, since they've been granted the power to travel through mirrors. The location descriptions will usually note if a room comes with anything of the sort, and all bedrooms carry two (2) mirrors by default. One in the main room, and another in the bathroom.

  5. Even if they die during the ritual, they'll be automatically revived at the end as long as they held up their side of the bargain (as in, actively participated during the ritual).

  6. Speaking of their side of the bargain: Whatever they've been promised in exchange for their cooperation, they'll receive once the ritual is over.

  7. This goes without saying, but just a gentle reminder. All Prophets are willing participants of the ritual, and have agreed to McMurder 39 other individuals in exchange for having their wishes granted by an eldritch abomination. You do you, Prophets.

As a reminder, you have until Tuesday, 11:59 PM EST to pick whoever you're all going to murder so you have plenty of time to plot how the kill will be carried out. Given that this is the very first week, we ask that you pick between the two mod characters listed in the Prophet Handbook, and as always — feel free to hit us up on the designated weekly faction plurk if you have any questions!

It is midnight on Tuesday when you find yourself suddenly awake. Your roommate, should they still be alive, is blissfully asleep as your body moves on its own and heads to the outdoor pool and dining area. The smell of cooked meat invades your senses as you approach, and once you are close enough, you'll find Craftly enjoying a beautifully prepared meal. Across from him, another identical plate sits, waiting for you to dig in.

Craftly raises his cup, filled to the brim with wine, and beckons you to sit down.

"Greetings, Teacher."

It seems like it is finally time for the two of you to have a conversation.

Welcome, Teacher! As you must know by now, your character has the chance to either protect one (1) character or hang them out to dry. This is an either/or situation, so you can only pick one no matter how much your character may want to do otherwise. To summarize the key aspects from this role's rulebook:

  1. Your character must pick one person each week, though the effect will kick in during the following week.
  2. They will not be counted as a culprit or accomplice if someone who is made vulnerable dies, but they will be rewarded with a Clue Token.
  3. Similarly, they will receive one Clue Token if the person they protected that week is targeted by any other resident. Good job, Teacher!

New top levels will be created in this post for each passing week. We hope you have fun with your role!

Logic dictates that a cordless telephone should not operate without its base station, but that is exactly what the item you have been blessed (cursed) with does. On most days, it is a useless piece of technology that takes up space at best and unnerves you at worst. You cannot make calls with it. Pressing any of its buttons does nothing. And try as you might to get rid of it, it will always show up on your person even if you didn't take it along with you when leaving your room.

When you least expect it, however, it begins to ring. The noise is high pitched and painful to your senses — but nobody around you seems to notice. It will not stop until you pick it up, with the ringing becoming louder and louder by the second. Strangely enough, nobody will seem to notice if you were to answer the call in the middle of a crowded room.

So... What will you do, Operator?

Welcome, Operator! As you must know by now, your character has been assigned an item role, with their personal item being a cordless telephone with no base station. This telephone will be both invisible and silent to others, meaning your character never has to worry about accidentally revealing their role. On the other hand, it means they can't simply whip our their phone and hand it over to someone else for any reason. Tragic, we know. But don't worry, there will be plenty of others way to have fun.

Due to the nature of this post, we can't give you a set day for when the phone will do its thing. A weekly placeholder top level will be added to this post on Monday, in tandem with the weekly mingle. We will be replying to this top level whenever your character receives a call on the cordless phone, and you will get the chance to either ignore the call or pick it up. Though we'll be notifying you through plurk every time a new call goes up, we strongly suggest tracking comments on this post.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to let us know through PM or PPs.

Each Tuesday morning, you will wake up with a note in your hand. The handwriting is a little on the messy side, to the point where one might wonder if it was written in the middle of an earthquake, but it remains legible. It reads:
Dear Medium,

I will be waiting for you at 11:00 PM, in the Lounge. The bartender will allow you inside. Do try to be on time.

- The Innkeeper

Should you do as the note says and swing by the Lounge at the time specified, you will find Craftly sitting by the bar. A glass of something undoubtedly expensive is held up by one tendril, and he takes a sip as you enter the room. Next to him sits another glass, untouched and clearly meant for your consumption. It's non-alcoholic — probably. You might just have to take a sip to find out.

Once you've come closer, he will give you a grim smile and say:

"Come take a seat, Medium."

Welcome, Medium! To summarize the key aspects of what this role entails:
  1. Each week, your character will meet with Craftly to select one character from the graveyard to have a private conversation with.
  2. This private conversation will happen ICly on Wednesday. We'll help to coordinate for you and set the post up, so don't worry.
  3. The private conversation won't be censored, but sharing information gained from the graveyard with the living might not be safe. Use caution if sharing your role.
  4. Seeing as how the graveyard is super duper empty on Week 1, there won't be any choice to be made on this week.

If you have any questions, shoot us a PM or a PP. We hope you enjoy your role!

At 3:00 AM on Tuesday morning, you will be roused from your sleep and drawn towards the unmarked room nestled between the Kitchen and Laundry Room, almost as if you had no control over your body. As you come to stand in front of the room, the door quietly swings open to reveal Craftly. Behind him, the strangest room you've seen in your life. He beckons you forward, guiding you inside the room and locking the door behind both of you.

"Have a seat," he says, gesturing towards a small table for two. "I've been waiting for you, Bootlegger."

Moments later, a list is slid across the table towards you. What will you do now?

Welcome, Bootlegger! As the Bootlegger's Rulebook indicates, your character will have the chance to pick one item from a list each week. Items will show up on Wednesday, at 6:00 PM EST, at a location of your character's choice. This means they can either have it appear somewhere public for the benefit of everyone, or in their own room, where they can grab it as soon as it appears.

Please understand that once selected, an item cannot be requested again.

The list is as follows:
  1. Small bag of marijuana with a glass hand pipe
  2. Medical kit
  3. Fingerprint kit (Dust + Ink)
  4. Luminol spray
  5. Colt Revolver with 1 bullet
  6. Gallon of gasoline
  7. Clue token
  8. Trowel
  9. Flashlight with batteries
  10. Gas mask
  11. Pack of cigars
  12. Blacklight
  13. Handheld taser
  14. One pitchfork
  15. x8 bottles of clean water
  16. Body bag

Let us know if you have any questions! We hope you enjoy your role.

The final fold of each rulebook is reserved for information on each character's personal role. This information will be invisible to everyone but Craftly and the character who possess the role. The only exception to this rule is if the bootlegger requests the blacklight and someone uses it on the final fold of the rulebooks.

i (kyuu) will be writing stuff down in the comments but delivering the rules to everyone in a pastebin might be easier for us, instead of playing with screened comments and stuff.
