( HUNTERS - WEEK 2 )

For this week, there will be no sudden loss of control for those who have signed their souls away for the greater good. As long as they're in the Curio Shop by 6:05 PM on Monday, nothing out of the ordinary will happen. All they must do is knock on the shop's door, carefully as if to not draw attention towards themselves, and the door will creak open by itself much like the previous week. As per usual, inside this strange room they'll find Craftly seated at a round table. Shelves of antiques line the walls and the smell of peppermint tea wafts through the air. A thin tendril slips across the table from Craftly's sleeve, hooking around his cup of tea. As smug as ever, he smiles to the group. "Come in, Hunters. It's time for us to begin". Welcome, Hunters! Yeah, like. How we're supposed to explain why each of us are bleeding from the mouth now?

One of us should probably ask Craftly about that. It'll probably be a dead giveaway we're up to something.

... In any case, let's discuss the trial first and then tackle what's in front of us.

[In retrospect, it seems so obvious now. If catching the Prophets was that easy - because why would anyone but a Prophet make the first kill? - there would have been no need for this little rebellion.

But she really wanted to believe that they'd succeeded.]

There was... So much going on there. Everyone tried so hard to figure out what happened... It's hard to tell how much of that was genuine and how much was the Prophets, acting.

[he sobers up immediately, leaning both arms against the table]

. . . yeah. And focusing on the people who didn't try to find alternate theories to the Hana-as-the-culprit one won't help us, since most of us were convinced of her guilt once the evidence started to come together.

[ninjay]

The role of the Ghost seems to be a very powerful one, so it's more than a little unpleasant that it'd be a Prophet member who has it.

[ since jay agrees with yukina's meta text there. ]

One of the most pressing questions was how did the killer know what Hana's role was because it would make no sense for someone to just possess her blindly. I think that hole is one of the main things that killed the Ghost theory for some, in regards to that trial. But if another Prophet member can find out roles, or if they have some sort of ability like we do to check others in general, then...

...it's also possible that she did tell someone about her role, and she just... didn't want to admit it. Though I can't imagine why that would be, since it might have helped clear her name...

[And Hana was innocent. She should have wanted to do anything to make them believe her... so, it makes no sense for her to have kept silent about it.]

It seemed like... the message in blood this morning was from the Ghost, don't you think? They definitely found out about her somehow. It's just a matter of figuring out who... "Mother," is supposed to be.

It would have helped clear her name. There's no way she kept that to herself when everyone was ganging up on her.

[he nods at Yukina in agreement]

Yeah. I thought that too, when I saw the message. I was thinking. . . remember how Craftly told us the Prophets sold their souls for power?

This "Mother" creature must be the being they're contracted to. Similar to how we've got one with Craftly.

[ninjay]

That's the most likely answer. [ he glances over to where craftly is seated. thank you for no making them call you father, dude ]

Why do you think they left the message though? Were they told to? Or did they just act on their own.

[thawedheart]

...if this realm works on the concept of equivalent exchange, then...

[Yukina's brow is furrowed in concentration. She sounds a little hesitant - like she's not totally convinced - but it's worth considering anyway.]

Maybe... the being they're contracted with didn't feel like they gave up enough for what they got. Like they didn't... risk enough during the trial itself, so they have to put themselves at risk now.

Maybe.

[by now he has his ice pack and is resting his head on the table, with said ice pack pressed against his temple]

Or maybe-- they gave up their humanity, right?

Maybe they lose control over their actions, too. Like. . . I dunno. This "Mother" possesses them, or something. Maybe she wanted to make her presence known to everyone here, and she used a Prophet to do that.

[ninjay]

Maybe next time she can be a little less cryptic about it.

[ he almost wants to ask where do they think the blood came from, but. all the possibilities there aren't very good. ]

For all we know, all of those are possible. If stuff like that keeps happening though, the others might start becoming more aware of the Prophets.

[thawedheart]

If other people start to figure out what they are, then...

[Maybe they could help? Somehow? God, she doesn't know. They can't tell the others what they're doing lest they accidentally tell a Prophet, but maybe if the others start taking action, too...]

I don't want... the others to be left at the Prophets' mercy, if something does happen to us. The Prophets have proven that they don't have any. Shouldn't we try to leave hints like that on our own...?

I think they're already starting to catch on, actually.

[pillows his head into one arm as he talks]

I spoke to the tiny blue-haired kid who's a lot older than he looks the other day. Andersen.

He's pretty convinced that whoever killed Jason wasn't working alone. So while he might not know who those people are exactly, he at least is already aware of their alliance.

I think it's okay if others pick up on the Prophets' existence, so long as ours continues to remain a secret.

[ninjay]

Dipper and Jake feel the same way.

[ he taps a finger against the table. ]

Jake's the Carpenter, by the way. He told me because he knew that since he's here with people from back home, they would be more suspicious in terms of starting an alliance so early. He didn't even ask me to reveal my own to him.

The Carpenter...?

[Yukina thinks back to the menu, trying to recall what that role did. She doesn't remember exactly, but...]

That was a weapon role... right?

[But... alliances.]

And, speaking of people grouping up... have either of you... been approached by anyone yet?

[nowyouseeit]

[lifts his head slightly to nod at Yukina]

It is. Although it'd be pretty dumb of him to use that nailgun to kill someone now.

[sine. they'd all know it was him if someone showed up with nails in their corpse]

I've been approached by Andersen and Kaiba for alliances. I even got a code name for one of 'em. [that code name bit is said lightly] What about you two?

[ninjay]

Light, Dipper, and Jake. Possibly Chie? I'm on the fence of how useful she'll actually be.

[ jay that's mean. ]

Although Light is more of a trial basis alliance at this point, we're both still feeling each other out.

[thawedheart]

Kaiba-san, Light-san and I have an alliance with each other.

[Did they two-time her? They did, didn't they? Then again, she kind of two-timed them, too.]

[nowyouseeit]

[EVERYONE??? IS TWO-TIMING EACH OTHER???]

I still don't know how I feel about Light. [though he isn't sure if it's still the way he tried to explain away "murder" on his profile, the fact that he's a detective, or something else]

But Dipper, Jake 'n Andersen don't seem like Prophets to me. Neither does Dave. Ah-- which, even though we don't have an official alliances, we're still sharing information and stuff with each other.

[ninjay]

I don't know Anderson very well, but I can definitely confirm that I don't think Dipper and Jake are Prophets. Granted, we won't know for sure until we check them, but...

[ listen. if jake ends up being a prophet then he is literally the best actor jay has ever met in his life. ]

I'm still on the fence about Light. However, I do understand why he's so defensive. I'm pretty sure the only reason he was voted as executioner is because of his profile. It's going to be infinitely much harder for people like him or me to get others to not point fingers at us because of that.

[ he tilts his head, looking between the both of them. ]

I'm actually surprised neither of you have asked me to explain mine.

...I like Light-san. He's... kind.

[She thinks a lot of the people here are kind, though, so that's. Definitely going to come back to bite her at some point. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when.]

And I think those profiles have always been meant to make us doubt each other. There's some truth to them, but... I've been friends with people who have killed before. Being skilled at killing doesn't make you a bad person. I prefer to make up my own mind after I get to know people.

[She smiles at Jay.]

And, I trust you. We're allies, after all.

[nowyouseeit]

. . . yeah. What Yukina said.

[directed at Jay]

We're on the same side, here. We can't go around doubting each other. My focus is to get people outta here alive.

[I mean, he might have felt different about Jay if they weren't all Hunters, but. . .]

We probably need to start talking about who we wanna check this week. I imagine we've got no reason to arm anyone yet.

[ninjay]

[ while he has been calm throughout the conversation (aside from when he got tentacled, in which case he looked completely traumatized after), at their comments his eyes flickers very quickly between the two, his expression confused.

when kaito redirects the conversation to their jobs though, his averts his gaze from then and looks at the pliers instead. ]

Who do the two of you think we should investigate then?

[thawedheart]

I think...

[Yukina lets her voice trails off as she considers it.]

Probably... either Kaiba-san or Light-san. I don't distrust them, exactly, but I think it's... significant, that there's some overlap. And if we hadn't been talking with each other, we wouldn't have known about it.

[She hesitates.]

They're either... that adamant about catching killers and surviving this, in which case they might be strong allies, or they're... up to something, in which case we'll need to be careful around them. Checking one of them might help us figure that out.

[nowyouseeit]

[considers her suggestions for a moment, fingers drumming against the table]

. . . yeah. I think that's a good idea. I was gonna suggest Dave, just because-- [hesitation] Because I absolutely think he'll be on our side, no matter what, and I don't want my faith in him to be displaced.

[Dave had talked just like he had, after all. talked about getting everyone out alive, about how three people surviving just wasn't enough. he hates thinking about his roommate like this after some of the conversations they've shared, but. . .]

But that's mostly for my own piece of mind over anything else. S'probably smarter to check the people we're suspicious of, not the ones we aren't.

So out of those two, I'd pick Light.
