( HUNTERS - WEEK 2 )

For this week, there will be no sudden loss of control for those who have signed their souls away for the greater good. As long as they're in the Curio Shop by 6:05 PM on Monday, nothing out of the ordinary will happen. All they must do is knock on the shop's door, carefully as if to not draw attention towards themselves, and the door will creak open by itself much like the previous week.

As per usual, inside this strange room they'll find Craftly seated at a round table. Shelves of antiques line the walls and the smell of peppermint tea wafts through the air. A thin tendril slips across the table from Craftly's sleeve, hooking around his cup of tea. As smug as ever, he smiles to the group.

"Come in, Hunters. It's time for us to begin".

Welcome, Hunters! As of this week, you'll get the chance to either investigate one other character or arm them with a randomized weapon. If you have any questions, you can shoot us a quick PP or PM as always!

If you could... that would be wonderful. I'd rather not see children that young get hurt...

Then again, I don't really wanna see anyone hurt.

It would be preferable if we all managed to get out of this without any more injuries or deaths.

[ his tone implies he does not think this will happen. ]

... Are there any other sudden revelations anyone has to make?

I don't either, but... especially not them.

...Yukina thinks about it for a moment, then nods.]

I don't know if anything will come of it... but I did speak to Suzaku-san. I'm pretty certain that he's definitely not the Ghost... and we have the beginnings of an arrangement, I think. We agreed that if the two of us made it out of here alive, I'd help him with things he might have trouble with in our world when we returned. Since he's willing to work with me, I should be able to keep him from going after either of you if he does decide to play the game on his own terms at some point.

[. . . tch]

You can't keep him from killing anyone at all?

[he. doesn't know Suzaku, but. he has to ask]

She did say they weren't exactly close... Just because they happen to be from the same place doesn't mean they have to work together, after all.

[ the guy kind of seems like an asshole from what jay has seen so he's just thankful he's willing to work with yukina at all. ]

I would if I could.

[Would she ever...]

My hope is that he'll decide the risk is too great and won't kill. But if he does... I think he'll tell me.

Then we'll know he's the culprit for that week, right?

Hopefully there won't be more than one then.

[ but ha ha there totally won't be multiple murders in one night right???? ]

That would be a rather straightforward trial though.

...right. Another thought I had...

[She hesitates.]

It's not a kind one. But, if he was to become restless enough to want to kill, enough that I couldn't stop him... and we were to find one of the Prophets, it might... be possible for us to convince him to kill that person.

[Yukina doesn't look comfortable with the idea even as she voices it - it's too much like using someone. In fact, it's exactly like that.]

[Kaito's hand subconscious curls around the handle of his handgun]

[he says firmly]

I can't do that. Being asked to kill the Prophets is enough. Setting someone else up to take the fall for us, knowing that he'd die, or knowing that someone innocent could die in his place. . .

[he trails off. HIS IDEALS ARE SHOWING]

[ jay would have been okay with that plan, honestly? and he's about to even say so, but then a thought strikes him. ]

If... someone kills a Prophet who isn't us, does it still count? We've been given the task of hunting them down, but someone completely unrelated to us might decide to kill someone for whatever reason and happen to choose a Prophet. Or we might vote one off and they get executed. But if someone else does our job for us, is that a point for or against us?

["Extremely manipulative and also terrible" is exactly Yukina's view on the matter, but in the interest of getting as many people alive out as possible - she had to at least suggest it. If Suzaku was to start killing on his own, he'd actually do some good by taking out a Prophet.

(If he was to get caught... well, she's not sure exactly what she would do then. But she knows she would confess in a heartbeat, if the finger started to be pointed at someone she knew to be innocent.)]

To be honest... I agree with Kaito-san. But I wanted to give you two the chance to consider the option... [Better to at least lay it on the table than to keep it to herself. They need to make a decision as a group, after all.] But that's... a good question. I thought that as long as the Prophets were stopped, that it would be enough...

We should probably clarify with Craftly-san. Because if somebody else finishing them off wouldn't count, then what would it mean as far as our attempts to end this go...? It would be a race not just against the Prophets, but against the others, too, in that case.

[GIVE HIM TIME TO SIT ON IT, HONESTLY. he's just. not very good at being manipulative about murder]

. . . yeah. Let's ask him, just to make sure.

[he feels so exhausted all of a sudden]

I'll ask.

[ he's quiet for a minute, before adding. ]

If Craftly confirms that it doesn't matter who does it, then we'll revisit this topic at a later time. I don't think we're desperate enough to resort to it just yet.

...yes. And with any luck, it will be a moot point. If Suzaku-san never decides to kill, then... we won't have to worry about needing to guide him toward a Prophet instead of someone innocent.

[She's mostly just worried about if he does decide to kill. If that happens, and they can't stop him, then they should at least try to make the best of a shitty situation, maybe.]

[sighs and rubs his temples with one hand, wincing as he does so]

Mmmmn. . .

We'll keep the option open for now and return to it if we need to.

[ the thing is, even if it doesn't work out with suzaku, the idea of having someone else do it is... tempting. ]

I know that the idea of using someone else to do our kills for us isn't one either of you are fond of for moral reasons. But... I do think Yukina is right with suggesting it as a possibility. It may be dirty, but we shouldn't ignore an opportunity if it strikes. If he's going to kill someone anyway, then we should at least try to make something good come out of it.

[ a pause. ] Well, there's also the possibility of us just killing Suzaku to stop him from killing anyone.

[She shakes her head slowly.]

I don't think that's an option... unless we've already caught a Prophet or two by then. We're the only ones who can confirm whether or not someone is a Prophet... we can't risk being executed before we've done that.

If we're killed, then the others are doomed unless they get very, very lucky.

[jerks a thumb towards Yukina]

What she said. Plus, if we got away with it, we'd be condemning someone innocent to death at the trial.

I know. I was just pointing out that no matter what, in that scenario someone is going to die. If Suzaku decides to kill someone and tells Yukina, we either have to stop him, use him, or turn a blind eye. The first option will lead to the scenario you just said. If we use him, then we'll take a Prophet out. In the last one, an innocent person will still die regardless.

[She hates this. It doesn't seem like there's any way of doing this where someone won't get hurt, but...]

Whatever we end up doing... even if we don't like the methods, I think... we have to do as much as we can to minimize the amount of bloodshed.

[god damn it Jay why are you so levelheaded and right about this]

Yeah.

[his response is empty]

Especially bloodshed involving innocent people.

[ he looks at both of them sympathetically. ]

But yes, let's shelve this discussion for now. I'm sure we all have a lot to think about.

[She nods.]

Right. So... same time next week, then.
