( HUNTERS - WEEK 2 )

For this week, there will be no sudden loss of control for those who have signed their souls away for the greater good. As long as they're in the Curio Shop by 6:05 PM on Monday, nothing out of the ordinary will happen. All they must do is knock on the shop's door, carefully as if to not draw attention towards themselves, and the door will creak open by itself much like the previous week.

As per usual, inside this strange room they'll find Craftly seated at a round table. Shelves of antiques line the walls and the smell of peppermint tea wafts through the air. A thin tendril slips across the table from Craftly's sleeve, hooking around his cup of tea. As smug as ever, he smiles to the group.

"Come in, Hunters. It's time for us to begin".

Welcome, Hunters! As of this week, you'll get the chance to either investigate one other character or arm them with a randomized weapon. If you have any questions, you can shoot us a quick PP or PM as always!

[ With the newfound information provided to you by blood, the night is not yet over. It is time to begin strategizing. This information is precious and as Craftly eyes you all carefully, he does not interfere unless spoken to. However... things are different, now.

Between the copper and smell of blood, each of the Hunters will begin to feel an immense pressure against their gum. It's painful. So painful but over the course of the next 20 minutes of their time, their tooth will begin to gradually regrow inside of their mouth. It pushes through the gum, crowning until it is as if it was never plucked out. Craftly will provide napkins to those during this process. ]

So... we've discovered that Light's the Teacher...

And he's... not a Prophet, either. [e v e r y t h i n g h u r t s focusing is hard.] ...Craftly-san said... that "GPA" helps determine someone's chances of survival, so... having Light-san on our side would be a good thing... right?

I think that we, as a group, need to decide what bits and pieces of information that we're willing to [ WINCES SUDDENLY. give him a moment. ] goddammit. Sorry, um... what information that we're willing to tell people we've formed alliances with.

[ okay give him another moment as he takes a napkin from craftly ]

Then we can decide what we're willing to... tell him, that'll get him to trust us more.

[Yukina takes a deep, shuddering breath. She has a high tolerance for pain, but this is like... well. She feels like a teething puppy or something. A sad, disappointed, teething puppy.]

Well, I'm meeting him and Kaiba-san tomorrow... [What can they tell him? What can they safely tell anyone?] I don't think I've given him any real reason to distrust me, but... I'm also not sure it's safe to talk about my own role. It won't be of any use to us if the Prophets find out about it.

[someone please give these kids juice boxes and blankets so they can nap jfc]

Y-yeah. . . Yukina, you're better off keeping your role to yourself. We know Light isn't a Prophet, but we still don't know about Kaiba.

[he flinches, and raises his ice pack to his head again]

I was gonna. . . tell Dave about my role. Only Dave, though. Not about-- [gestures at them all] -- this group, and not about the part where I can shoot at Prophets and my aim will be true. Just the. . . weapon aspect of it.

He's already guessed I've got a weapon, anyway.

I think that my role is probably the safest to give away...

[ he just. trails off there, staring blankly into space for a moment while he contemplates knocking himself out so this will be easier to deal with. ]

[ he turns his head to look directly at kaito and immediately regrets the movement. ]

[It's not likely that Jay will be a target by virtue of his role alone, even if it becomes common knowledge. But she also doesn't like the idea of him being the only one to be outed...

It's a shame her skill becomes useless if the people it's to be used against know about it. She'd reveal hers in solidarity, if she could.

She turns her attention to Kaito and sucks in a breath at the pain the movement causes.]

...I think Dave-san is trustworthy. Even if he we haven't cleared him officially yet, he doesn't... he doesn't seem like he would be a Prophet at all. It's probably safe for you to tell him that much...

[he agrees with Yukina's words, ice pack shifting from his head to his mouth. maybe if he alternates??]

The only risk outing myself to Dave poses is if someone shows up dead with a gunshot wound. But I like to think Dave trusts me enough to know I wouldn't go around killin' people.

[for no reason goes unsaid, because. he still hasn't. . . quite come to terms with the idea that he'll be the one pulling the trigger when they do find a Prophet]

It may be a problem once we find a Prophet then.

[ because yeah, while yukina or jay could potentially be the ones to do the kill, the most logical choice would be for kaito to do it because of his specific weapon.

he... slowly puts his head down, pressing his cheek against the table. he must have pressed too hard though, because he very quickly shoots back up, his hand flying to cover that cheek. THIS IS THE WORST. ]

Ugh... Let's just hope that he trusts you enough to not point fingers... But besides roles, we are being told information here that others don't know about. We can... maybe give small bits of it out... that aren't too damning.

...I want the others to know that it's possible for more than three people to survive this.

[If they keep quiet about that, then even if the Prophets don't make a move... other people might kill out of desperation, whether they need to whittle down the numbers or not.]

But I don't know how to spread that around without it getting traced back to us.

. . . I wonder if it's possible for us to post anonymous messages? Like, hang 'em up on the main door of the motel. We could pass on information we want the general public to have that way.

But doing that may also alert the Prophets to our existence.

[ give him a second to respond, mostly because jay is now wondering why the hell didn't craftly also give him and yukina ice packs. just because they don't have a migraine doesn't mean they don't deserve ice packs this is unfair. ]

Maybe we could try to frame it like it's one of the roles, but vague enough so they wouldn't know which role it is? Or... we can just speculate on whether or not it's possible. If we get enough people talking about the idea, they might try to find out of it's real or not. Or... [ fuck idk ]

...I've already talked to a few people about how I want it to be possible for that to happen. I've been... saying that since the beginning. [She tilts her head to the side.] ...so I don't think it would make anyone suspicious of me if they did hear that I started bringing it up as a possibility...? Or...

I don't know. Even if the Prophets became suspicious, I'd survive it if they came after me. But... not if someone else did.

And I don't want to leave the others here undefended.

The-- [ow. pauses to groan again] -- Explorer role. What if we. . . used that role as cover to pass on our messages? Explorers are always searching for more information, so it'd be easy to pretend that the role has something to do with information gathering, yeah?

[a frown, but the movement of his mouth hurts, and he shuts his eyes tightly]

We can pass things on, bit by bit. We don't have to start off by saying we know how to end the game before there are only three people left, but we can give everyone some words of encouragement. Or something.

That's... I think that might be passable, as long as we don't oversell it.

[ so easing their way slowly into the information is good, especially so early in the game. ]

We don't want to give away too much now, since then people might start to wonder how we'd figure out so much so fast. [ welp there's a new pang of pain. he clenches his fist, waiting for it to pass so he can keep talking. ] We can't tell Light too much until we clear Kaiba though.

...we also... don't have to be entirely truthful about our roles, either.

[They can't just straight up say something like "Oh yeah, I'm the Teacher!" since Light will most likely immediately call them out. Although it's a bit of a risk, if they all manage to survive, then...]

Between the three of us, we're the Gangster, the Explorer, and the Paranoid. So if we end up needing to cover our tracks... any one of us can claim another's role. We won't contradict them.

[As long as they never get killed, their roles won't be announced like Hana's and Jason's were, right?]

It could be good if... someone decided that only having a map made you sound like an easy target for the Prophets. If they thought that you had my skill, maybe they would leave you alone, Jay-san.

If they were smart, they would leave Jay alone if they thought he was the Paranoid.

But if either of you claim my role, you'll have the same problem I'd have if I revealed it to anyone: you'd be immediately suspicious if someone showed up dead with a gunshot wound. So. . . I dunno if that part is such a good idea.

Your description mentions the soulless beasts. Everyone seems to be taking that literally, so they're all probably expecting actual monsters. But... [ now he's addressing the both of them. ] Do the Prophets know it's talking about them?

Wasn't there another role that had a gun, too, though? Just... a different type.

[She doesn't know the difference between guns. All she knows is they're scary when they're pointed at her.]

But... that's not a guarantee, so you're right that it might not help to do a full three-way swap.

[...oh. Jay brings up something she hadn't considered - since she knew the soulless beasts were the Prophets, she hadn't even thought that they wouldn't know it. But that's a good point.]

You're right... we could always ask Craftly-san. But, I don't see how they wouldn't know... wouldn't it be obvious to you if you were missing your soul?

A shotgun. Anyone who knows guns could be able to tell the difference, unfortunately.

[shotguns and handguns definitely cause very different wounds. he closes his eyes again and sighs, waiting until another wave of pain passes to speak]

Craftly said they had to actively sign away our souls. Kinda like. . . we did.

So they must know, right?

Maybe, but I'd like to know for sure if they would have gotten that exact wording. After all, all three of us didn't think twice to question the word "sacrifice" when we signed our contracts. It's better to make certain than assume.

[ as if on cue, he shuts his eyes shut for a second as the pain hits him again. goddammit. ]

[Man, she doesn't know?? If he hadn't only specified the shotgun she would have wondered if the nailgun shot things too.]

Well, I'll ask Craftly-san, just to confirm. If it does turn out that the Prophets know that they're the "soulless beasts," then... I really think we ought to consider acting as though you're the Paranoid and I'm the Explorer, Jay-san. It might keep us all safer that way.

[They can let things slip about the maps, and if the Prophets go after her as a result, they'll be in for a surprise.]
